Beethoven

Picture
Quick and Interesting Facts:

Full Name: Ludwig van Beethoven
Born: December 16, 1770 (Bonn, Germany)
Died: March 26, 1827 (Vienna, Austria)

Period of Music: Classic and Romantic

By the time Beethoven was 40, he was completely deaf.

His father used to make him practice for hours on end, hoping he would be be like Mozart.

Joseph Haydn was his music teacher.

To write music after Beethoven became deaf, he would listen to the vibrations of the piano. When he was 20, he noticed his hearing diminishing and could no longer hear the higher notes. He sawed off the legs of his piano to help feel the vibrations.

Beethoven died during a thunderstorm on March 26--which was quite suited to his personality. Franz Schubert was a torchbearer at his funeral.

Mozart heard Beethoven play and said "Watch this lad. One day he will force the world to talk about him."
